Easy Birmingham trip!

Got an Off-Peak Day Return to Birmingham from Coventry last week. Booking online was super easy, and the train was on time. The seats were comfy enough for the short journey, and I even managed to catch up on some reading. I'll definitely use them again for my next city visit. Recommended!

Good value for a student

I grabbed a Student Season Ticket from Wolverhampton to Birmingham. It felt like a solid investment compared to buying daily tickets. I used my 16-25 Railcard too, which saved me a bunch. The whole process was straightforward online. It's good to know I'm getting a decent price for my commute, though it still adds up over the year. Happy with the savings.

Mostly good, a few hitches

I purchased an Advance Single from Worcester to Birmingham for a specific date. The price was great, really competitive, and the booking system worked smoothly. The train itself was clean, and I found a seat easily. However, it was delayed by about 15 minutes heading into Birmingham New Street, which made me a bit late for my meeting. I mean, it happens, but it's always a bit frustrating. The journey back was perfectly on time, though. So, overall, a positive experience for the price, just that small delay kept it from being perfect. I still think it's a good option for travel in the region.

Decent ride to work

I used West Midlands Trains for my commute to work last month, just an Anytime Day Single. It was fine, nothing special really, but it got me there. The train was a bit busy but I expected that during peak hours. Took about 30 minutes, which is what it always does. No complaints, just a normal train ride. Will use them again next time I need to get into the city.

I'm a student, looking at getting a season ticket. Do they do specific student ones or just the regular season tickets?

B Brett D. 1 month ago
They definitely have Student Season Tickets! Check their site, usually you need to prove your student status. It's a decent saving if you're commuting regularly.

Yeah, they do a student season ticket. Make sure you have your uni ID or whatever proof they ask for when you buy it.

Thinking of getting an Advance Single ticket for a trip to Birmingham next month. How far in advance do I actually need to buy it to get a good price?

R Renee 1 month ago
The earlier the better for Advance tickets, honestly. I've seen prices jump pretty quick even a couple weeks out.

Yeah, if you know your date and time for sure, just grab it. They're usually way cheaper than buying on the day. But remember, no changing your mind on those!

Can you use a railcard on the Flexi Season Ticket? Or is it just for regular daily tickets?

D David Patel 1 month ago
I don't think so, mate. Flexi is already a bit of a discount for part-time commuters. Railcards usually apply to like, Anytime or Off-Peak singles/returns.

E Elena 1 month ago
Nah, flexi season tickets don't usually get extra railcard discounts. It's built for those who travel a few days a week, so it's already a different type of saving.

Is it possible to take a bicycle on the Cross City Line trains? Or is it too busy usually?

W Wendy Silva 1 month ago
You can, but there are restrictions. Usually, off-peak is fine, but during peak hours, it can be a real squeeze and they might not let you on if it's too full. Check their bike policy on the website.

I've seen people with bikes, but avoid rush hour at all costs. It's already packed as it is.

Anyone know if West Midlands Railway runs the train to London Euston? Or is that a different company?

O Omar E. 1 month ago
Nah, WMR mostly covers the West Midlands area. For Euston, you're usually looking at London Northwestern Railway or Avanti West Coast from Birmingham.

E Emma 1 month ago
WMR doesn't go to London. They connect places like Coventry, Worcester, Shrewsbury within the Midlands. London routes are typically other operators.
